FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions about Navigate, Inc. & the Grief Recovery Method.

What is grief. We define grief as the conflicting feelings you get that are caused by the end of or a change in a familiar pattern of behavior. This extends beyond death and divorce and can include pet loss, change in jobs or health status and so much more.

Grief can affect our body, mind, emotions, and spirit. People might notice or show grief in several ways: Physical reactions: These might be things like changes in appetite or sleep, an upset stomach, tight chest, crying, tense muscles, trouble relaxing, low energy, restlessness, or trouble concentrating.
When you're grieving, a flood of neurochemicals and hormones dance around in your head. “There can be a disruption in hormones that results in specific symptoms, such as disturbed sleep, loss of appetite, fatigue and anxiety,” says Dr. Phillips. When those symptoms converge, your brain function takes a hit. This is why you may feel tired or unable to concentrate or focus.
Grief represents the thoughts and feelings experienced following a loss, mourning includes outward expressions or signs of grieving
We do not currently have ongoing “drop-in” groups. Rather, the Center provides six-session Healing Our Losses groups with definitive start dates and end dates. Groups typically run in the Spring and the Fall. Once a six-8 week group starts, there are no new participants introduced into the group. If you are interested in potentially participating, we find it helpful to schedule a one-on-one intake appointment with our group therapist,You would then be invited to participate in the next group once it is ready to start.
When there is sufficient registration, (7 or more people) a group will begin. Once a 6-8week group begins, sessions meet weekly for six consecutive weeks. We usually cap off at 8 people to keep the space intimate. It is important that each participant can commit to all scheuled weeks. While an absence is sometimes unavoidable, missing a session will affect your experience of the group.
Groups are 90 minutes in duration and There is currently no specific day of the week in which groups take place. The day of the week is variable from group to group, but stays consistent once a new group begins. That is, if the next group begins on Thursday evening, all sessions will be on consecutive Thursday evenings until the group’s completion.

The program taught me a structured process to complete losses and grief that I have encountered and may encounter again. I participated in the program to help me deal with the loss of my twenty-one year old son Jordan. I learned how to complete that loss in my life my reviewing our relationship and discovering the apologies I needed to make, the things I needed to forgive and the significant emotional statements that I needed to convey. I will use this same process to complete other losses and grief that I have encountered.

I have gained the ability to address the deeper rooted issues that kept me from dealing with my current problems. This has lifted a weight off my shoulders and allowed me to communicate better Support Groups

The program truly opened my eyes to facing my grief head-on, speaking to it, accepting it, and moving on. I'm a much better person for participating and I feel I have increased my ability to handle grief (past and future) with the tools needed to be successful. The reading and homework was very accommodating for someone like me, who works a full-time job and other activities. I'm constantly unconsciously helping others who are grieving. Including myself!

I must say, being a Pastor, I was a little concerned about how I would be perceived however I must say it was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life
